There are over 350 non-alc wines in our directory, which we recently covered in a category guide. Given the limitations of current technology, dealcoholized wines can sometimes fall short of replicating the full-bodied taste of their alcoholic counterparts, as weβve previously discussed.
So, it makes sense that the top request from Dry Atlas readers is recommendations for non-alc wines that taste like the real deal. While none of these would fool you in a blind taste test, here are four options that get as close to the real deal as possible.
Sovi Reserve Red
Dry with notes of boysenberry, plum, cassis, and warm baking spices, Reserve Red is a blend of dealcoholized Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Syrah wines. Itβs a best-seller at our retail store, Spirited Away, and itβs the only non-alc red I personally reach for again and again. For me, itβs all about the palate. While many non-alc reds fall flat, this one has tannins that lead to a long finish.
Surely Bubbly Red
This blend of alcohol-removed Cabernet and Pinot Noir has dark cherry notes and a nice dry finish. Youβll also find hints of baking spices and a slight herbal character. While the bubbles are a bit unusual, they add the mouthfeel that dealcoholized red wines so often lack. I love this one slightly chilled.Β
Giesen New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc
This is, hands down, the most recommended non-alc wine by Dry Atlas readers. Itβs also a best seller at Spirited Away. Made from Giesenβs premium full-strength Sauvignon Blanc, itβs aromatic, crisp, and refreshing. Like non-alc red wines, still non-alc whites are notoriously difficult to nail. Gisen seems to have cracked the code.Β
Thomson and Scott – Noughty Sparkling Chardonnay
Another best seller at Spirited Away, Noughty Sparkling Chardonnay has achieved a sparkling wine thatβs not-too-sweet. With just 2.9 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters, it has almost half the sugar content of other non-alcoholic sparkling wines. This is the sparkling that Iβve been consistently reaching for since 2020. I love it as-isβor with a splash of Chambord for a lower-alc cocktail.
