Katie Garry is the founder and CEO of Seek, the first women’s health company to make information about how alcohol impacts the female body accessible, affordable, and personalized. Before starting Seek, Katie spent years trying to understand how alcohol impacted her own health. After working her way through the traditional healthcare system, booking dozens of specialist appointments and spending thousands of dollars on medical bills, she ended up with more questions than answers, and decided to do something about it.
As she revisited to role of alcohol in her life, she started to explore the world of alcohol alternatives.
Here are her current non-alc picks:
When I first tried Buzzkill, it felt like I was “cheating” in all the right ways. If you want to take the edge off, Buzzkill offers the best placebo effect. My absolute favorite is their sauv blanc in the summer. Wine tends to be higher in sugar, especially NA wine because of the dealcoholization process. I love that Buzzkill is under 5 grams of sugar a glass (less sugar = more balanced hormones = lower anxiety levels).
Three Spirit will forever be a staple on my bar cart. I really think of this brand as a completely new category. Most people try Three Spirit for the first time because they want to experiment with functional beverages. Then they find out that Three Spirit’s elixirs are also delicious, which is an added bonus. I love that each one has complex flavors that aren’t overpowering. They also deliver on the “functions” you seek from drinking, without booze, whether you want to unwind with Nightcap or feel energized with Social.
As someone who is obsessed with uncovering new health hacks and alcohol alternatives, Apothékary is a dream. I first tried their herbal remedies when I was starting to explore my relationship with alcohol and was searching for a way to relax after work without wine. Wine Down is Apothékary’s red wine-inspired alcohol alternative tincture. You can add it to any drink and it actually makes you feel relaxed. I love that they make mini versions of their tinctures, so they’re easy to bring to any restaurant, bar, or event.
All The Bitter was one of the first NA products I tried. If I’m making drinks at home while entertaining, their Orange Bitters is almost always a key ingredient. It’s so good that I’ll specifically make recipes it will fit into. All The Bitter was founded by two former sommeliers, which is why the flavor profiles of their bitters will completely blow you away. Even though I love the taste, my favorite thing about the brand is actually the ingredients they use. All The Bitter is made with functional botanicals that can support your health goals, whether related to your gut microbiome or liver.
