Why is Non-Alcoholic Wine Priced Like Traditional Wine?

Partner Content: BOLLE

At BOLLE, we’re sometimes asked why our non-alcoholic wine is priced like traditional wine, even though we don’t have to pay alcohol taxes.

We know this question is asked of many non-alcoholic beverage producers, and we’re well aware everyone’s pricing is different. For many of the similar-sized producers to us, though—particularly in the non-alcoholic wine category—the reasons will be the same. The answer is simple: the quality, craftsmanship, and small-scale production that go into every bottle of BOLLE.

Let’s break it down.

1. We Start with Quality Chardonnay Wine

Our non-alcoholic wine isn’t just any base liquid. We start with high-quality Chardonnay wine, just like any premium winery. This means we’re already working with the same initial costs for grapes, fermentation, and winemaking expertise.

2. Quality Dealcoholization is Expensive

The second step is to put our wine through one of the world’s highest-quality dealcoholization machines. This technology gently removes the alcohol to cause as little damage to the wine as possible. This process is sophisticated and costly, but it’s necessary to deliver the best non-alcoholic wine experience.

3. We Use a Second Fermentation Process

We don’t stop there. After dealcoholization, we undertake our patent-pending, world-first winemaking technique: we referment the wine with additional Chardonnay grape juice and yeast to create the complex flavors, aromas, and mouthfeel that true wine lovers expect. This extra step is key, and it’s why customers, sommeliers, and wine judges alike describe BOLLE as the best non-alcoholic wine they’ve tried.

4. We Bottle Our Wine Like Everyone Else

From here, we bottle our wine the same way traditional wineries do, ensuring every bottle maintains the quality and integrity of our non-alcoholic wine. We use high-quality bottles, labels, and other components to reflect the premium base materials and processes used throughout the production of BOLLE.

5. We’re a Small Producer

Unlike large-scale wineries, we’re a small business. That means we don’t benefit from the economies of scale that bigger players enjoy. Our packaging, ingredients, and production costs are significantly higher per unit because we don’t have the luxury of buying in massive volumes.

What’s next for BOLLE?

With a recent funding round and key leadership appointments, we’re poised to reshape the wine industry by attracting new drinkers, retaining existing ones, and promoting responsible consumption. Our CEO Gary Read emphasizes BOLLE’s mission to cater to diverse lifestyles and occasions, offering high-quality non-alcoholic wines that elevate social experiences and dining occasions.

Our initial sparkling cuvées—Rosé and Blanc de Blancs— set a new standard for non-alcoholic wine through a meticulous dealcoholization process and unique second fermentation step. By maintaining the wine’s true essence and complexity, we want to be known as a trailblazer in the realm of non-alcoholic options. From our own research, we have discovered that 95% of those who have savored a sip of BOLLE believe it rivals the quality of traditional alcoholic sparkling wines, appealing to a growing market segment seeking premium alternatives. Many customers find they prefer us to the alcoholic versions, as we provide the full wine experience without the compromise. It’s not just about what’s missing—it’s about what you gain with BOLLE.

Stay tuned for what’s next. We think you’re going to like it!
