Riding the Wave: The Emergence of Ocean-Based Beverages

Ocean-based beverages are starting to… make waves. Defined by their inclusion of ingredients like ocean minerals and sea moss, these drinks are not just a nod to the natural world but an embrace of its health benefits. Ocean minerals, extracted from seawater, are a rich source of magnesium, calcium, and dozens of other trace elements essential for our body’s well-being. Sea moss, a type of seaweed, is lauded for its high vitamin and mineral content, particularly iodine, which health experts say is crucial for thyroid function.

A pioneering new brand in this space is Guinep, which offers a non-alcoholic ocean mineral cocktail. In our recent conversation with Aaron Wisniewski, Founder and CEO, he shared the meticulous process of developing Guinep. The decision to use ocean minerals was driven by their rich nutritional profile, providing a natural source of essential minerals that are often lacking in modern diets. His passion for wellness and sustainability steered him toward these ocean-derived ingredients, recognizing both their health benefits and that they add a unique, mineral-rich flavor profile to the cocktail.

A more recent entrant in this space is MOSS, co-founded by actor Michael B. Jordan and Dr Smood Group. With MOSS, they aim to bring sea moss to the mainstream beverage market, blending it with organic juices, botanical extracts, and herbs. The drinks include other functional ingredients like ashwagandha and ginseng.

The rise of ocean-based ingredients in beverages is reflective of a broader trend in wellness and drinking culture. Consumers are increasingly seeking alcohol alternatives that not only taste good but also offer legitimate health benefits. The ocean presents a treasure trove of ingredients that are both novel and nourishing.

As we continue to see innovation in the beverage sector, the emergence of ocean-based beverages is a clear sign that wellness will remain integral to our drinking choices. These products offer a unique combination of flavor and nourishment, bridging the gap between what we drink and the healthy lives we aspire to lead. It’s a tide that’s likely to keep rising, reshaping our beverage choices as it does.
