According to <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #333399;\"><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/509588\/americans-view-moderate-drinking-unhealthy.aspx\/?ref=dryatlas.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gallup\u2019s latest data<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 52% of those 18 to 34 think so, up from 34% five years ago. This perception is in line with reports that younger adults are <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #333399;\"><a style=\"color: #333399; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/509690\/young-adults-drinking-less-prior-decades.aspx\/?ref=dryatlas.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">drinking less<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Those who drink are less likely than they were in the past to say they had an alcoholic drink within the past seven days\u2014an indication of being a regular drinker. The 61% who most recently reported having a drink in the past week is down from 64% in 2011 &#8211; 2013 and 67% in 2001 &#8211; 2003.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But this data doesn\u2019t necessarily indicate the rejection of all recreational substances. Marijuana, which attracted the lowest level of health concern in comparison to other substances, is becoming more normalized and accessible as legalization increases. Tobacco is also prevalent among young people\u2014even among younger teens. <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #333399;\"><a style=\"color: #333399; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tobacco\/data_statistics\/fact_sheets\/youth_data\/tobacco_use\/index.htm\/?ref=dryatlas.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the CDC<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in 2023, 1 of every 8 high school students (12.6%) reported current use of a tobacco product. Vaping\u2014widely recognized as \u201cvery harmful\u201d by the majority in Gallup\u2019s study\u2014constitutes the vast majority of youth tobacco use today.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Are young people merely swapping one vice for another, and if so, what does this mean for future health outcomes?
